Pathway to Purpose Counselling - FAQ
Welcome to the FAQ page of Pathway to Purpose, a counselling service based in Bridgend, Wales, United Kingdom. Here you will find answers to common questions about my counselling service, including what to expect during sessions and how many sessions are recommended.
What will counselling sessions look like?
Counselling sessions are tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. Sessions may include talk therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other evidence-based approaches.
How long are the initial counselling sessions?
The initial counselling sessions are 50 minutes long, allowing time for the client and therapist to get to know each other and set goals for therapy.
How many sessions are recommended?
The number of sessions recommended will also depend on the client's needs and goals for therapy. I will work with each client to create a treatment plan that meets their unique needs.
Are counselling sessions confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is of the utmost importance. Information shared in counselling sessions is kept confidential, except in cases where there is a risk of harm to the client or others.
What types of therapy do you offer?
I offer a blend of Person-Centred, Gestalt, and Existential therapies, with elements of CBT and the relational model, when helpful. Each approach focuses on understanding yourself better, with an emphasis on living authentically and finding meaning in your life. The therapy is always tailored to your needs.
Do I need to have a specific problem to start therapy?
No, you don’t need to have a specific issue to begin counselling. Some people come to therapy to better understand themselves, navigate life changes, or improve their well-being. Whatever you’re going through, therapy can help you gain clarity and support.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy can be a powerful tool for self-discovery and growth. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply want to make positive changes in your life, it could be a great fit. The best way to know is to reach out for an initial conversation, where we can discuss your needs and whether therapy feels right for you.
What happens if I don’t feel comfortable?
It’s completely normal to feel unsure at first. Counselling is a process that happens at your pace, and it’s important that you feel comfortable and safe. If at any point you feel that therapy isn't the right fit for you, we can discuss other options or approaches. Your comfort and trust are key.
Is there a free telephone consultation available?
Yes, Pathway to Purpose offers a free telephone consultation for new clients to discuss their needs and determine if counselling is the right fit for them.
How often are ongoing counselling appointments?
The frequency of ongoing counselling appointments varies depending on the individual needs of the client. Sessions may be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
How do I book a counselling session?
To book a counselling session, simply contact me via phone or email to schedule an appointment. I look forward to working with you.
Does Therapy Explore the Past?
Therapy can include exploring the past, but it doesn’t always mean revisiting painful memories. Different approaches offer different ways to reflect on past experiences, always at a pace and depth that feels right for you. The focus is on what supports your growth and well-being, whether that means looking back or staying in the present.
Person-Centred Therapy values your past but focuses on how you feel about yourself right now. It offers a safe, supportive space to explore emotions at your own pace, encouraging self-acceptance and growth.
Gestalt Therapy brings the past into the present. Rather than analysing past events, it helps you notice patterns and unresolved emotions as they show up in the here and now. Through techniques like dialogue and body awareness, you can process what’s unfinished and find closure.
Existential Therapy looks at how past experiences shape your beliefs, choices, and sense of meaning. Instead of dwelling on what was, it helps you take ownership of your future and live in a way that feels true to you.
How do online sessions work?
Online sessions are just like in-person meetings, but they’re conducted via video call or phone. I’ll guide you through the process, and we’ll ensure you have the right technology in place for a smooth session. Online therapy is a flexible and effective option, especially for clients with busy schedules.
What if I miss a session or need to cancel?
Life happens! If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please give at least 24 hours' notice. This allows us to reschedule, and you won’t be charged for a missed session. If you miss a session without notice, there may be a cancellation fee.
